West Texas Rehabilitation should begin soon, offering hope to many – KSWO

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – West Texas Rehab will begin tomorrow, January 25th, giving people a chance to return to facilities that care for the people who need help the most.

7News Chief Photographer Justin Stevens brings us the story of a family receiving care from the center.

Christy Garza Callie Talles’ mom talks about her daughter and talks about how she’s doing.

“It was hard at first, too, Garza said. – You know, you’re lost and scared, you worry about everything, you know, her health, you know how she’ll manage in life. She really blew us away with all the milestones she hit. She is very determined, so she is a little bigger. She is a fighter. “

Jo Beth Willis Pediatrics Director talks about Callie’s early childhood and her condition now.

“So the only thing about Callie is that she was born early,” Willis said. “She was born at 36 weeks and has Down syndrome. She also had a heart defect at birth, so she had an atrial septal defect. She also has and has a septal defect. An endocrinologist because of her thyroid problem, she had difficulty gained a lot of weight and you can see that she is walking now.”

Willis then spoke about his hopes for the families and what he hopes to give them.

“Giving families hope and really giving them a lot of inspiration for what they’re doing. They didn’t expect to have a baby with Down syndrome. Or a baby with a heart defect. Or babies who are born premature or any diagnosis. I think by giving them encouragement and hope and faith that their babies are going to be okay and I’m going to help them be independent. “

Garza then talked about her experience with her daughter at West Texas Rehab and what it meant to her.

“From the beginning they were wonderful with us with open arms. So welcome. They just helped us a lot with her. “

Callie’s father, Noah Tales, then spoke about the experience he had and the help they received with their child.

“They love her just as much as we love our child. I mean they are just like family. You know, because they’re going through the same process that we are, so they, you know, with the experience that they have, and especially having a child with a disability that we don’t leave alone. “
