“Keep romance in the relationship”: Longtime Topeka couples share tips for Valentine’s Day – Wibw

Topeka, Kan. (Wibw) – Several couples at Brewster Place in Topeka shared with 13 news how they found their perfect match.

One of these couples was Jay and Pat Gideon. Jay soon met Pat at an event in college that she was the one for him.

“We had a meeting and sat in my old car in front of her hostel and I just felt it,” said Jay Gideon. “Do you know this, it’s this.”

Ernest Douglas fell in love with Norma, the girl in the neighborhood.

“I wanted him to wait a little longer that I didn’t think it was long enough, but he said,” No, I found what I wanted, “said Norma Douglas.

After a year and a half of dating, Ernest suggested on the day of love.

“I think it was on Valentine’s Day on Valentine’s Day I asked her to marry me,” said Ernest Douglas. “I fixed you dinner tonight, I remember what we had quiche,” said Norma Douglas.

Donald and Janice Schaefer met while working in hospital.

They also got married on Valentine’s Day.

“He gave me a ring and he said he was somehow stunned,” said Janice Schaefer. “He said the ring cost more than my motorcycle, I hope it’s worth it.”

Donald says she was even through the hills of life.

“We were squeezing in Kansas, we made this trip about 25 times. If you can survive the winds in Kansas, you can survive everything, “said Donald Schaefer.

Now, after decades, these couples have some tips on how to keep the flame alive on Valentine’s Day.

“Don’t go too fast, take the time and make sure he’s right,” said Norma Douglas.

“Focus on the other person, you know what they like and what would please them,” said Janice Schaefer.

“You have to work in keeping a little romance in a relationship,” said Jay Gideon. “Wow, I said too much.”
