Nevadans who are not yet registered to vote have one more chance to register for tomorrow’s election.
Can I register on the day I vote?
Same-day registration allows a voter to register for the first time or update an existing registration on Election Day, Tuesday, November 5. Nevada lawmakers made this possible for Silver State residents when Assembly Bill 345 was passed during the 2019 legislative session.
What do I need to bring to register to vote?
A Nevada resident must have either a valid Nevada driver’s license, a state ID card, or a designated tribal ID card and vote in person at a polling place if they choose to register the same day. If you ordered your Nevada driver’s license or ID card but it hasn’t arrived in the mail yet, the temporary driver’s license or ID card that the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles gives you when you successfully apply for a license or ID card also will serve as proof of identity.
Any other form of identification, such as a military ID card or passport, will not be accepted as proof of identity at check-in on the same day.
If you’ve moved since you last updated your Nevada driver’s license or ID, you’ll also need to bring proof of your current residence to the clerk when you show up to vote.
What documents can I use to prove Nevada residency?
The following items can be used as proof of residence:
- Military ID card
- Utility bill including, without limitation, electric, gas, oil, water, sewer, septic service, telephone, cell phone or cable television bill
- Bank or credit union statement
- Salary
- Income tax return
- Statement regarding a mortgage, rental or lease of a home
- Vehicle registration
- Property tax declaration
- Any other document issued by a government agency
- Tribal Identity Card
After you provide the required identification and complete the registration process, you will be given a newsletter. This may be conditional voting.
What is a provisional ballot?
The Provisional Bulletin is a complete bulletin that contains all competitions, initiatives, measures and questions available for your precinct. It is called a provisional ballot because it can only be counted if certain provisions are met. All advance ballots are held until all remaining ballots have been counted and the county clerk has verified that the voter is eligible to vote.
All voters, including those who have received advance ballots, can check the status of their ballot at www.NVSOS.gov/votersearch.
What types of Tribal IDs can be used for same-day registration?
Under state law, a tribal identifier can be used to identify an individual only if it contains certain information:
- The full legal name of the cardholder
- The cardholder’s date of birth
- A unique number assigned to the cardholder
- A digital photograph of the full face of the cardholder
- The address of the cardholder’s primary residence
- Physical description of the cardholder, including, without limitation, the cardholder’s height, weight, hair color, and eye color
- The usual signature of the cardholder
- The date the card was issued
- Reference to the tribal government that issued the map
Can I register online and vote on the same day?
Yes, any Nevada resident with a valid Nevada driver’s license or ID card can register online at www.RegisterToVote.NV.gov.
However, if a voter registered online within 14 days before Election Day (in this case on or after October 22), they can only vote in person at a polling place and must show their valid Nevada driver’s license, personal Nevada card or tribal ID card to vote in the election.
