Emporia High Girls Wrestling qualifies 10 for the state, 4th in Regionals

The Emporia Hayes Girls’ Fighting team qualifies for 10 Saturday in Topeca regions. With the kind assistance of Cali Medo.

Ten Emporia High Lady Spartan Wrestlers won tickets for the 5A 5A National Wrestling Championships this month on Saturday in Topeka.

Emporia Hi finished fourth in the 5a west region hosting a sailor, ending with 158.5 points. Lady Spartans finished behind regional champion Capown Mc Carmel, Regional Runner Hayes and Newton. Emporia Hi had four fighters in the regional championship matches with one regional champion. Kensley Medrano won the regional championship of 120 from the supreme tiebreaker, 2-1, over the sailor Taley Heston. Heiley Batrence (115), Gabby Duarte (190) and Alexo Castillo finished second. Batras was nailed in 2 minutes and 46 seconds by Newton’s Avery Quinos. The Duarte fell 3-2 in the tiebreaker of Eleanor Strael from Hayes. Castile was nailed by Jana Redkorn on Capown in 3 minutes and 55 seconds.

They also qualify for the state for Lady the Spartans have been Yaneli Karanka, who finished third at 145. Claire Star in 130 and Chloe Steele at 110, each ending in the fifth in weight classes. Sienna Spolling at 105 and Mia Gardner at 135 ended sixth. Lixie Lines Rosas finished eighth in 155.

The State Class 5A Wrestling Championship will be held on February 28 and March 1 at Park City Arena at Park City.
