‘Devastation’ as Gladiators contestant injured before final fight – Irvine Times

Nicky, a 40-year-old wedding celebrant from West Yorkshire, took on Belfast gym owner Keeva during the second episode of the second series of the BBC show, which sees amateurs go up against gladiators at various events.

She was injured during the third event, The Edge, a cross grid in the air that the challengers try to run over while the gladiators try to push them.

Nikki was pushed off the ledge during the episode by Dynamite, a weightlifter named Emily Steel, and fell onto the safety net below.

Nicki appeared to wince in pain after the fall and host Bradley Walsh told her: “Just go and check yourself on camera, that’s it.”

Dynamite said Nicki did “absolutely amazing” and “no matter what happened up there and how she feels right now, she (has) done so well to get here, and she should really proud of himself’.

Just before the final race, The Eliminator obstacle course, Keeva and Nikki were tied on points.

Co-host Barney Walsh then announced that Nicky should leave the competition.

He said Nikki “has been checked over by our brilliant medical team and unfortunately she won’t be able to compete in The Eliminator”, before saying Keeva had made it through to the quarter-finals.

“I’m absolutely devastated for Nikki, so happy to be in the quarter-finals, yeah, it’s tough,” Keeva said:

“I’m sure he’s in good hands.”

Hosted by father and son team Bradley and Barney Walsh, the series was revived on the BBC last year.

The original UK version launched in 1992. and was presented by Ulrika Jonsson and footballer John Fasanu. It ran on ITV for eight years until 2000.

It was then briefly returned to Sky between 2008 and 2009.
