Day of Remembrance, canceled by Pike Place Market in Seattle – Asamnews

The famous Pike Place market in Seattle has sharply canceled a scheduled day of commemoration, marking the deprivation of Japanese Americans from the concern of its political reversing, King5 reported.

The event, organized by the Zuru for solidarity, would be held on February 19, the anniversary of the signing of a executive order 9066, allowing Japanese Americans’ prison at the imprisonment camps.

“We see the links between the executive order calling for the mass arrest and imprisonment of Japanese Americans 83 years ago, and federal attacks aimed at immigrants in Seattle and across the country, and the national expansion of mass places of detention,” the statement said in a statement of the group in a statement on Facebook.

The group expressed disappointment with the cancellation, but said it would instead hold a press conference in the International Tchaytown neighborhood.

Since then, the Pike Place market has made an apology.

“We acknowledge our decision about the day of commemoration and resistance created direct harm and influenced our entire community, in particular our Japanese American neighbors and we want to be better allies forward,” the market foundation said.

“We at the Pike Place Market Foundation apologize to our community.”

It says he still talks to Tsuru about solidarity in the hope of repairing the damage caused by his decision. However, there is no indication that his decision will be canceled.
