The purpose of this report is to present proportional indicators for 5 causes of unintentional injuries among the elderly (65+) in Greece based on analysis of data from the Emergency Department Injury Surveillance System (EDISS). These 5 causes were chosen based on their highest ranking among all causes of unintentional injury mortality in the EU25 but soon the analysis will be expanded to cover more causes which are important in terms of morbidity. The indicators presented could potentially be applied for other EU countries as well, provide a basis for comparisons between them and ultimately assist in the identification of appropriate prevention measures. This analysis has been limited to Home and Leisure injuries but in the future it could be adapted to examine the same causes among all types of injuries or separately for specific types of injuries such as occupational injuries.
